Winter Is Here!
As the mercury dips, most students are coming to school with cold-weather clothes. All students should have a winter coat, warm hat, and mittens or gloves. Warm boots and snow pants add another measure of safety when students are outside. Students have at least 15 minutes of recess everyday and sometimes P.E. classes are outside.
Remind students that as they wait for busses or walk to school, to be careful of icy sidewalks. They need to look out for sliding cars. Should school need to close due to the weather, you can find out from local radio and TV stations, the www.spps.org website, and you will receive a call from the district's automated calling system.

Big River Journey
Fifth graders at Como School have been participating in the Big River Journey, sponsored by the National Parks Service, for many years. Students learn history and science of the Mississippi River through classroom and field trip activities. One component of the program is a poster contest which promotes our Mighty Mississippi. Como has had many years of multiple winners in this annual art competition.
