Welcome to Mrs. Jennrich's Classroom!
We hope that you will visit the website
often! At Como Park Elementary, we use a collaborative model to provide instruction to our students. During Reader's Workshop, Writer's Workshop and math, Mrs. Ristau is an ELL teacher teaming with first grade to provide instruction. Mrs. Ristau is in Mrs. Jennrich's first grade classroom from 9:15-10:15 every day! This means that students receive small group, direct instruction in both reading and writing. Wow! It makes a big difference to have TWO licensed teachers working with beginning readers and writers everyday!
In Reader's Workshop, students have learned that there are three parts. The whole group read aloud and mini-lesson, individual work time while teacher's instruct small groups at their own reading level and the closing meeting. We have practiced how Reader's Workshop should "look like" and "sound like" while we are doing our job.
In Writer's Workshop, students have learned that there are also three parts. The mini-lesson, writing time while individual students conferences with a teacher and a closing meeting in which we share our work. The focus of each day's mini-lesson is driven from examining student work and the conferences with each student.
During our skills block, students have been brushing up their printing skills while reviewing the ZooPhonics characters. This time doubles as phonics because we sing our ZooPhonics song and make each letter's signal before we begin the handwriting practice.
We are always working toward the first grade standards. Stop in to see our work posted in the classroom along with the standard. We are learning and growing each day!
