Mr. Tyler Matz

This is Tyler Matz’s second year as a teacher at Como Park Elementary. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Individualized Studies from Metropolitan State University.  His degree’s major focus was Specialized and Diversified learners.  Mr. Tyler is currently enrolled at Minnesota State University Mankato as a member of the Early Childhood Special Education graduate program. He is seeking a Master of Education in Early Childhood Special Education.  He strongly believes in early intervention of specialized education for young learners' success in their future journey.

Mr. Tyler is excited to be a member of the Como Park Elementary special education team and brings many years of education experience.  He spent 5 years as a paraprofessional in Early Childhood Special Education in Saint Paul Public Schools before becoming a teacher.  Prior to working for SPPS, Mr. Tyler spent two years teaching English in grades 6 to 12 at an accredited international school in Vietnam.  He also spent time traveling and teaching music in Jamaica and Czechia.  Tyler truly values the work he does with 3, 4, and 5-year-old learners and emphasizes diverse, fun, and energetic learning. 

Mr. Tyler lives in Saint Paul with his wife and cat.  They enjoy live music, cultural cuisines, and spending time outdoors.  Originally from Chicago, he also takes frequent trips home to see his family.  He’s also a big sports fan, go cubs!  Mr. Tyler is proud to be a member of the Como Park Elementary School Staff, a dedicated and masterful team that strive for success with each student.
